What is a Short Break?
Short Breaks are an essential part of the support provided by Nottinghamshire County Council to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and their families.
-
Short breaks are intended for disabled children and young people from the age of 5 years up to the age of 18 years, who cannot use general services which are available to everyone.
-
A short break is a planned break from the routine of caring for a child or young person. It is usually planned in advance and is not the result of an emergency or crisis.
Ensuring that your child or young person’s Short Break is used to enrich social and wellbeing activities and achieve positive goals means that Short Break hours should not be used to support childcare during or after school hours.
