Pain Relief Foundation

The Pain Relief Foundation is a UK charity dedicated to funding research and education into the relief of chronic pain in humans.

It was first established as a registered charity in 1979, in response to the urgent need for specialised research into the many different facets of chronic pain. Its main purpose was the setting up and operating of an institute where that research could be carried out. This led to the creation of the Foundation's Pain Research Institute.

The Research Institute has no official funding from either the N.H.S. or any other government body and thus relies entirely on charitable contributions and fund raising. Support to provide the funds for the continuing work of the Institute is vital and any help given is much appreciated.

The Foundation also provides leaflets designed to help and support patients and chronic pain sufferers, as well as providing specially prepared self-help audio cassette tapes and CD's. The audio tapes are based on treatment regimes established in the Pain Management Programme at the Walton Centre which operates in conjunction with the Institute. These techniques are proven to be very effective.

We also have a network of volunteers who help with our fundraising programme. Many of them are former pain patients. With our help and support, these volunteers raise many thousands of pounds every year through organising many varied fundraising events and activities. This kind of help is vital and ensures the continued funding and expansion of the work of the Institute.
