Overview
West Street Pre-school
A Registered Charity run by a voluntary management committee.
Rated 'Good' by Ofsted in March 2022. We offer high quality sessional provision for children 2 - 4 years of age, term time only/38 weeks of the year, 30 hours a week. We provide a rich and varied learning environment; all activities are accessible and differentiated to meet the individual needs of all children. A waiting list process is in operation for places. West Street Pre-school is committed to providing 30 hours childcare and education a week (term time only) and working in partnership with other settings, to provide a 'Blended Offer' re the Governments 30 hours childcare.
We have a staff ratio of 1 adult to every 4 children, who all hold a level 3 C.C.L.D. or above qualification, and who have undertaken extensive additional training in different aspects of childcare and education. All staff are Safeguarding, Paediatric First Aid and food hygiene trained. Our caring and qualified staff can offer your child the very best start on their educational journey. We follow the Government Statutory Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and Welfare Requirements.
We have an inclusive environment where the emphasis is based on learning through play, which can be child or adult led. Play enables active learning; creative and critical thinking; playing and exploring. We organise our sessions so that children can choose from, and work at a range of activities and in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. We encourage children to be 'independent, self - motivated learners', supporting them to make decisions and problem solve.
Each session we encourage free flow play during all weather. We have a secure fenced in garden area; 50% under cover with a variety of activities available. We also go on outings in the community. Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development, and their knowledge of the world around them.
We strive to build solid relationships with the children who attend our pre-school setting and their families. Enabling family members to become part of our management committee or a volunteer helper in the sessions if they wish to, once we have DBS clearance for them.
The details provided in these service listings are supplied by individual providers and not checked for accuracy. The Council does not provide any representation that the individual providers will meet your needs and does not accept any responsibility for making these checks. It is important that you carry out your own checks of DBS certificates and other qualifications to satisfy yourself that they are acceptable and meet your needs.
