The Big House - Short Breaks

Overview

The Big House is open all year, however closes for Christmas. Closed Xmas Eve 24th December until the 28th December.

The Big House is a home with 6 beds, which provides short breaks and has expertise in working with children with severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, medical and sensory neds. Also with children who may respond or become distressed and may display risk behaviours when their needs are not met, or when struggling to communicate with others.

The staff team at The Big House are skilled in adapting their approach to suit the needs of the children they a support and staff training is provided to develop and maintain individual’s skills. Staff listen and respond to the voice of the child.

Our vision for The Big House to be a place where children feel loved, safe, healthy, and happy. A place where everyone who comes to stay can have a good quality of care, enjoying lots of new experiences and achieving positive outcomes. We ensure that we offer a range of different activities and resources, so children have a variety of experiences during their stay at The Big House. We have extensive gardens with lots of play equipment and outdoor spaces for the children to enjoy.

We also provide an additional service to parents, carers and school with play sessions during term times.

The Big House is a fantastic space with lots of facilities for the children to enjoy. We can also offer parents and carers who have children with learning disabilities who are not accessing our service to visit or use the facilities during term time. This must be booked in advance. We have a range of indoor activities, sensory room and outside space with lots of equipment that can be used by young people in a safe, secure setting. External organisations and professionals can also access this facility. This can be booked via The Big House 01623 822453.

The Big House operates an Out of Hours Support Line that can be utilised by parents and carers who need support, advice, guidance and sign posting regarding their child.

All young people are required to have a full assessment of need and a social worker or personalisation officer dependent on their legal stautus.

Young people must also be attending school.
