Overview
Staunton Montessori Nursery School is located in beautiful renovated nineteenth century barns in the Vale-of-Belvoir in rural Nottinghamshire and has been offering Early Years education and care since 2001.
The nursery has outstanding facilities, with spacious, well-lit and beautiful rooms. The main learning areas are open plan with different learning zones for specialist activities. The setting has a hard-standing outdoor play area, a sensory garden and a play paddock, as well as an area with raised beds for growing food.
The outdoor spaces have different themes and emphasis to bring out different learning. The paddock and nearby meadows are used for nature walks and activities such as the ‘listening walk’ from Phase 1 ‘Letters and Sounds’. Around the school, we have access to a number of footpaths and rambles that extend the children's learning outside of the immediate site. We also have our own woodland and environmental learning site, and we are an accredited ‘Forest School’. The school also has a dedicated private office area, which is used for administration, as well as a staff training suite used for CPD and staff meetings.
On roll in the nursery we have between 60 and 70 children who attend a variety of sessions. The current maximum number of children on site is 50, and they would be in two different groups. The average number of children attending each morning is 36 and the average number of children in the afternoon is 26. On a busy morning there may be up to 8 staff on site. We also work in partnership with Nottingham Trent University and other colleges to provide placements for suitable students. All university students have DBS checks.
Our catchment area is the triangle between Southwell, Grantham and West Bridgford. Children attend from the 3 counties of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire & Leicestershire and go on to mainly village schools as well as primaries and prep schools in local towns. We have an active link with a number of primary schools, including Orston Primary School.
Although in a rural location, we are an inclusive and culturally diverse setting. Occasionally, we have children with English as a second language. We have a highly inclusive ethos and admissions policy, and we successfully educate and care for children with SEN, such as Down's Syndrome and autism, as well as children with physical disabilities. We have developed something of a reputation for assisting children with SEN and are recommended by health visitors.

Dietary needs
We cater for a wide range of special dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan or food intolerances. We also cater for a range of cultural or religious diets and parents can update the nursery about their childs dietary needs on a form on induction. This form is called the All About Me form and requests information about a childs particular needs. We have children in attendance with food allergies (such as dairy, gluten, nuts, among others) and our staff are extremely vigilent in caring for these children at snack and meal times. Children bring their own packed lunch each day as we are unable to cater for/provide hot meals.
Special needs (children)
We cater for a wide range of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We work with a range of different professionals such as health visitors, speech therapists and physiotherapists to assist children to achieve their developmental goals. We have a very experienced staff team who have detailed knowledge of assisting children with additional needs. Our SENCO is very diligent and spends a significant amount of time liaising with parents to ensure enhanced outcomes for children. Our staff are well disposed to assist children to make the best progress possible.
