Overview
Meetings are first Tuesday of each month 7-9pm
The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is a campaigning organisation that is run by and for blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people. The organisation consists of a network of branches around the country, one of which is based in Nottingham. NFB is committed to campaigning on behalf of all visually impaired people across the UK, for improved rights and access to facilities and services.
Current campaigns being undertaken by the Nottingham branch include improving access to public transport, getting involved in consultations regarding local services and e-scooters. We are involved in consultations with the City Council and other bodies, as well as discussions around changes to the benefits system, e.g. changes to Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
We meet once a month on the first Tuesday evening, currently online via Zoom. Meetings last for approximately two hours.
If you would like to get involved, you don’t have to come and demonstrate in London against the Government’s cuts to services for disabled people – there are plenty of more passive activities you can get involved with, e.g. sending letters to or meeting your local MP, or simply signing petitions as they are circulated. Whatever you do can make a difference!
If you decide to get involved, membership will cost you £16 per year and is payable around the time of the Branch AGM in January to our treasurer. You don’t have to pay straight away – come along for 2 or 3 meetings and see if you like us before parting with your cash!
