Overview
Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.
Many children will drop the signing naturally as they develop speech, some will need to use Makaton throughout their lives.

The charity offers a confidential Family Advisory Service to support families who are thinking about, or have been advised to use Makaton, and for professionals who support families.
The service is free and offers advice on training and resources and ideas for using Makaton.
