Hucknall Day Nursery

Overview

Established in 1995, our family run day nursery is set in warm and friendly surroundings. We offer home-from-home comprehensive, quality childcare for your family.

Nursery care and early education are vital to a child’s social, intellectual and emotional development. Our staff understand the balance of security and stimulation children need, feeding their natural curiosity and encouraging their abilities to absorb new experiences and discoveries.

We provide a total service that will allow you to feel at ease, in the knowledge that your child is in the best of hands. The nursery is designed to be secure and spacious, with a large outdoor area. Each room is tailored to meet the needs of each age group and support their Early Years Outcomes. All rooms have access to a secure outside play area where children can choose to take their learning and play outside.

We have a SENCO team, lead by Jodie. She is our SENCO and has a LEVEL 3 qualification in special educational needs. In the past, we have supported children with high level needs. We refer and work together with outside specialists including SSFS. We are also experienced in bidding for inclusion funding to support children with additional needs. Jodie has also worked with specialist support teams and imputed into EHCPs.

We have a team of Special Educational Needs Coordinators whom have received specialist training in supporting children with additional needs.

We are committed to the inclusion of all children at our nursery. We ensure all children are cared for and educated to develop to their full potential alongside their peers through positive experiences. We enable them to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn from each other. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual needs and we work hard to ensure no child is discriminated against or put at a disadvantage as a consequence of their needs. Each childs needs are unique and we do not attempt to categorise children.

We are committed to working in partnership with parents in order to meet each childs individual needs and develop to their full potential. We are committed to working with any child who has a special educational need and/or disability and making reasonable adjustments to enable every child to make full use of the nurserys facilities. All children have a right to a broad and well-balanced early learning environment.

We undertake a Progress Check of all children at age two in accordance with the Code of Practice and statutory framework for the EYFS to support early identification of needs.

We will also undertake an assessment at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage for any children that remain with us in the final term of the year in which they turn five, as per the statutory framework for the EYFS.

We will work closely with the childs parents and any relevant professionals if we identify any areas where a childs progress is less than expected to establish if any additional action is required. This may include:
Liaising with any professional agencies
Reading any reports that have been prepared
Attending any review meetings with the local authority and other professionals
Observing each childs development and assessing such observations regularly to monitor progress.
We have three staff who are have received specialist training in supporting children with additional needs. Their role includes:

Ensuring all practitioners in the setting understand their responsibilities to children with SEND and the settings approach to identifying and meeting SEND
Advising and supporting colleagues

Ensuring parents are closely involved throughout and that their insights inform action taken by the setting

Liaising with professionals or agencies beyond the setting
Taking the lead in implementing the graduated response approach and supporting colleagues through each stage of the process.
