This is a small, homely setting in which we enjoy playing and learning in our spacious play room, the children also have access to the living room for nap time or to have quiet time. All areas of development are met through free flow play and activities set out for children to explore, using a range of rich resources. My approach to childcare follows the Hygge in the Early Years, this means I use natural objects and real items, prioritising a slow and steady approach to childcare. Activities offered in my setting often follow the seasons and embrace nature.
Meal times take place in our dining area using age appropriate seating round a children's table, this encourages the social aspects of meal times and helps to form good eating habits from an early age. I encourage independence at meal times wherever possible. We sometimes have lunch out if on a trip in the community. Parents provide lunch and I cook a nutritious tea every day and provide a morning snack.
We are lucky to have a spacious garden for the children to play in all year round. The mud kitchen and outside messy play area is very inviting and I enjoy setting up activities in that area according to seasons, occasions and the children's interests. Outside play also gives many opportunities for children to play and develop their gross motor skills whilst running, climbing and riding ride-ons. We have pet guinea pigs in a large shed near where the children play, the children love to help feed the guinea pigs and learn what they can and cannot eat.
Every week we attend a range of play groups, take trips to the parks or shops. Giving a wealth of fun experiences to the children in my care. We also take special trips on occasion, to the farm or art gallery's.
