Overview
Our frontline teams of Community Paramedics, Technicians, Nurse Advisors, Emergency Care Practitioners, not forgetting the services of First Responders, and volunteer lifesavers are ready day or night to respond to an emergency.
Specially trained staff in our emergency Control centres are on standby waiting to find out what’s wrong with the patient, where they are and to dispatch the most appropriate response when you dial 999. In many cases, they also provide medical advice to callers - so patient care begins right away.
Then there’s our specialist Cave Rescue Team who descend into the darkest recesses of the Peak District to help injured or trapped potholers, cavers and walkers. And if you’ve ever been to a rock concert or football match, you may have come across our Events Team. Since 2002 they’ve provided Paramedic cover at a wide range of public and sporting events across the East Midlands and UK.
Patient Transport Services (PTS) are also an extremely important part of our activities. We make more than 5,000 journeys a day to a range of destinations, including hospital outpatients departments and day care centres. We also provide non-urgent transfers between hospitals, and routine discharges and admissions. The patients who travel with us are those who, because of their medical condition, would be unable to use another means of transport. A programme is currently underway to ensure that all EMAS staff are provided with dementia training as mandatory. Did you know EMAS also provides first aid courses for the public, voluntary organisations and businesses within the public and private sector?
