Independent Special Schools and Independent Post-16 Colleges

Local Authorities are required to publish a list of independent schools and colleges in England and Wales, which are approved by the Secretary of State for Education under Section 41 of the Children Act 2014. This list is updated on a termly basis. The latest list can be downloaded from the link on the right side of the page. The link also includes a list of non-maintained special schools, independent schools and colleges excluding Section 41 approved schools and colleges.

Independent Special Schools and Colleges in Nottinghamshire

In Nottinghamshire we have established an approved provider list for placements in independent non-maintained special schools. The aim is to promote access to school placements in Nottinghamshire and the neighbouring authorities so that children and young people are not travelling considerable distances to access education. It also provides a framework against which Nottinghamshire can evaluate the quality of the provision that is being made and is designed to promote a collaborative approach with providers.

The details of independent non-maintained schools and independent colleges that are geographically accessible to families living in Nottinghamshire are detailed individually within the "education" section of the Local Offer.

You can search for them under the sub-category called 'Special Schools - Non-Maintained and Independent'. Please be aware that admission to a funded place at one of these settings is only available with the agreement of Nottinghamshire County Council, through discussion with your EHC Plan Co-ordinator.
