Dear Providers, the information below contains current and up to date information from our strategic partners for you and your staff:



New and updated guidance and support, including information on funding


Guidance – Covid-19: management of staff and exposed patients or residents in health and social care settings - Updated 17 January 2022

Key changes are:


  • Staff may be able to end their self-isolation period before the end of 10 days. They can take an LFD test from the fifth day of their isolation period, and another LFD test on the following day. The second LFD test should be taken at least 24 hours later. If both LFD tests results are negative, they may end their self-isolation immediately after the second negative LFD test result.


The isolation period includes the day the symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they do not have symptoms), also described as Day 0.


Please note that they should still not return to work unless they meet the criteria listed in Section 2.2 of the guidance, including not having a high temperature and undertaking a risk assessment if they work with patients or residents who are especially vulnerable to Covid-19.


Please also note that the two LFD tests should still be taken at least 24 hours apart. This is different from the guidance for the general public.

Reminder : Symptoms of Covid-19

We would ask that providers continue to be alert to the symptoms of Covid-19, Infection Prevention and Control Teams have identified that many residents who are displaying ‘soft’ signs are testing positive for Covid-19. This is resulting in significant spread of the virus through services, we have provided a reminder below


Common symptoms of coronavirus include:

  • a persistent, dry cough - typically if you've been coughing a lot for more than an hour or have had 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than normal)
  • a high temperature, where you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a loss or change in your sense of smell or taste.


Other symptoms ‘soft signs’ people are reporting include:

  • a headache
  • a sore throat
  • a blocked/runny nose
  • body aches
  • stomach discomfort and diarrhoea
  • feeling breathless
  • confusion or delirium


If residents are displaying any of the symptoms listed above, no matter how mild please complete a PCR and LFT if able and isolate the individual until a PCR result has been received and take appropriate action.

Funded offer to support care provider recruitment and retention of care professionals

Nottinghamshire County Council are pleased to share that they are working with The Care Professional Standards Academy to offer a range of benefits directly to our valued care workers and care providers across Nottinghamshire. From 25th January employers registered with CQC as a Nottinghamshire provider, and their workforce, will be eligible to sign up for the Care Professional Standards Academy at no cost. This scheme will be funded by Nottinghamshire County Council for the first year and provide the following benefits:

  • A training management platform to identify what training and qualifications would benefit each staff member
  • Notifications of when training is expiring
  • Evidence for CQC inspections and Local Authority audits of training that has taken place and how it is managed

It is really important therefore that we all consider how everyone can benefit and make sure we use it to its maximum potential.

On the 1st January 2021 free movement ended and the UK introduced a new points-based immigration system. The new system treats EU and non-EU citizens equally and has transformed the way in which all people come to the UK to work and study. Anyone coming to the UK to work or study, excluding Irish citizens, will need to apply for permission in advance.
