Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Council UPDATE BULLETIN – For all health and social care providers – Tuesday 14th September 2021

Dear Providers, the information below contains current and up to date information from our strategic partners for you and your staff:

New and updated guidance and support, including information on funding:

Video from the Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council

To all providers

There has been much discussion about social care in recent weeks as Government considered plans for Adult Social Care reform and funding. Amongst all of this discussion, for me it is important that we emphasise that Social Care is essential in enabling many people to enjoy a good life at different ages and points in their life when support is needed.

For all of us working in the different roles and services that make up Adult Social Care, the last 18 months has been tough at times and it is important to recognise the work that all of our staff do. The Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council wanted to pass on his personal thanks and to recognise that underneath all of the media attention is a workforce who deserve a personal thank you.

Kind regards,

Melanie Brooks

Corporate Director

Adult Social Care and Health

FAO: All Provider – Continued use of PPE

Due to the vulnerability of those requiring care in care home settings or in the community, there is no change to PPE advice. You need to wear PPE for personal care of all individuals you care for:

• whether the person you are giving personal care to has symptoms or is known to have COVID-19 or not

• regardless of the age of the person you are caring for

• no matter what your role is

See the following link for more information: PPE guide for community and social care settings (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Face Covering Poster

Please find attached a poster that you can display in your care setting to support the message of the continued use of face coverings for visitors and staff.

Training events, webinars and support links:

Frailty training package and App

As part of the Ageing Well plans for the Integrated Care System (ICS) one of the areas of focus is the identification of frailty.  The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) provides a shared language between all areas, helping everyone to support older people to live well.

This new frailty training package is for:  All people working in health and social care who support adults 65 and over across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS.

Why this training is required:  To introduce the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) and ensure that the whole health and social care workforce across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS can communicate using a common language and so improve the quality of life for people living with frailty.

How to register to be notified when this training package becomes available:  See the poster attached for more information and click on the link to register your interest.

Clinical Frailty Scale and App now available

Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) app is a free application that supports the Frailty Training Package outlined above.  Frontline colleagues in all health and social care services can download for use on mobile devices, to undertake clinical frailty scoring with client groups in real time.

The CFS app works by responding with a simple Yes or No to a series of nine questions, starting at the most severely frail end of the scale. The response to the question identifies the level of frailty and provides a recommendation about how to approach that patient’s care and treatment with extra information to read as needed.

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store at the link below:  https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/clinical-frailty-scale-cfs/id1508556286.  An Android version will be available very shortly.

The app is supported by the attached CFS Quick Reference Guide (attached), which has been designed as a poster to be printed for use by colleagues. Further information on the use of the CFS is also available on the Acute Frailty Network webpages here.
