First Steps is a fun, multi-skills (the ABC’s of movement – Agility, Balance and Coordination) based resource targeting inactive 3-11 year olds with a visual impairment.
The aim of the project is to get young people with a Visual Impairment (VI) engaged in physical activity in the comfort of their own home alongside their family and friends.
A pack, which contains an audible ball, balloons (to put rice in, creating a lighter audible ball), pump, sticker sheets and most importantly a fantastic resource which takes the child on a physical activity learning journey is sent out directly to the family from British Blind Sport (BBS). In addition to receiving the pack, the young person and their family will receive ongoing support and will be invited to family days organised by BBS, that will not only bring the targeted young people together, but introduce them to new activities and signpost those interested to inclusive community clubs.
