Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Council UPDATE BULLETIN – For all health and social care providers – Tuesday 26th October 2021

Dear Providers, the information below contains current and up to date information from our strategic partners for you and your staff:

New and updated guidance and support, including information on funding:

PPE Message for all Providers

This is an important reminderthat the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) remains a necessary practice in health and social care settings, including for all care workers and Personal Assistants delivering care in people's homes (domiciliary care).

Please continue to use PPE as per the following guidance: PPE Guidance. We would also recommend that unpaid carers who do not live with the person that they provide care to, continue to wear PPE as per the following guidance: Guidance for those who provide unpaid care to friends or family

This guidance applies even if the person(s) providing care and the person(s) being cared for have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) are currently undertaking a consultation regarding the provision of PPE post March 2022. You are encouraged to respond to this consultation through the following link: Extending free PPE to the health and care sector - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)  This consultation will close on October 31st.

If you currently order your PPE through the central government PPE Portal (Login (nhs-ppe.co.uk), please continue to use this service.

If you live in Nottingham City:

You can register and order a supply of all your COVID-19 related PPE through Nottingham City Council’s online system: https://myaccount.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/service/order_your_ppe

If you live in within the Nottinghamshire County:

If you are ineligible for the national PPE Portal, Nottinghamshire County Council are continuing to supply free PPE for COVID-19 related needs, and you will receive advance notification should there be any changes to this service. Orders can be placed every 8 weeks where possible to ensure a consistent level of stock is maintained. To place an order, please use the following link: PPE Equipment

If you are unable to access the internet, then you can call our Customer Service Team via 0300 500 8080, and a member of the PPE Team will be in contact with you following this.

If you have any further questions about PPE, or need support ordering, please contact ppe@nottssc.gov.uk

REMINDER from CQC

Regulation 18 of the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009 requires providers to notify us of:

“Any event which prevents, or appears to the service provider to be likely to threaten to prevent, the service provider's ability to continue to carry on the regulated activity safely, or in accordance with the registration requirements, including—

                        i.            an insufficient number of suitably qualified, skilled and experienced persons being employed for the purposes of carrying on the regulated activity.”

CQC inspectors are aware that ASC services are under immense pressure, however CQC has not received a notable increase of ‘regulation 18 notifications’ regarding any event which stops the service from running safely – these notifications include when "an insufficient number of suitably qualified, skilled and experienced persons being employed for the purposes of carrying on the regulated activity." We are just asking providers to bare this in mind, and where staffing pressures result in a change in people's care and support or contingency methods are put in place then we need to be notified.

You will find the form to be completed here:  https://www.cqc.org.uk/guidance-providers/notifications/events-stop-service-running-safely-properly-notification-form
