The Ark at Wellin Lane Pre-School
The Ark at Wellin Lane Pre-school was established as a Christian playgroup in 1992 and has always been part of the Rock Church and local Edwalton community. We have a Christian ethos and embrace all. We are situated in a bright modern church building with use of several rooms and outdoor play area. We are a voluntary managed setting, inspected by Ofsted and receiving local authority grant funding.
Our aims are:
- To put children at the heart of everything we do.
- To provide a happy, caring, homely, and inspiring environment supporting children’s emotional well-being and independence.
- To follow the children’s interests using a play-based approach to learning.
- To develop strong partnerships with families to support their child’s development and well-being.
- To provide and encourage confident communicators through our language rich environment.
- To provide a Christian ethos and understanding of basic Christian values.
We are currently embarking on a journey to becoming a curiosity approach accredited setting!
We offer Forest School sessions on Wednesday mornings, which we use the woodland area at the back of Edwalton Primary School to hold these sessions. We have a qualified level 3 Forest School leader, who leads these sessions each week.

Childcare Information and Additional Needs
Settling In
- How will you help children to settle into your setting?
- Q- Is it possible to come and visit the setting with my child? Parents/carers are welcome to come and view the setting, however we do ask that you phone and book a time to come, so we can ensure a member of staff is available to show you around. Q-What can a parent/carer expect before their child starts? Lots of communication between the setting and parents/carers before their child starting. You would be introduced to keyperson and preschool sendco by the manager. We would then arrange visit sessions, the amount would depends completely on how many you child needs, there are no set amount of visits. We will complete relevant and statutory paperwork to ensure everything is in place for when your child starts. We invite children to have settling in sessions, depending on needs this can happen for short intervals building up to longer stays, whichever suits the family needs best. We hope to restart home visits when possible so children can meet their keyperson before starting the setting, getting use to a familiar face.
Progress
- How will you communicate with parents/carers about their child's progress?
- Q-How do you communicate with parents / carers about what their child has done, enjoyed and learnt? We use an online journal called Tapestry for parents/carers to use when they wish. Staff use this online journal to send photos, videos and written observations to those who are connected to the account to show you all the lovely things your child is doing during their day(s) with us. We complete reports which are shared with parents/carers by keyperson, either face to face, online meeting or by telephone. Staff are also at the door in the morning and end of sessions to discuss any important information with parents/carers. Staff are also ensuring we keep communication with parents and carers as often as possible to ensure we are all working together to support your child. We support parents/carers by assessing the child and putting targets into place, looking at what progress and next steps we intend to do and then we will share this information with parents/carers, asking them to work on the same next steps at home to help the child gain an understanding. With us all doing the same, we hope this will help with their child’s learning. We also work alongside any outside agencies your child may have supporting them, for example SFSS, paediatricians, speech and language, physiotherapists, childrens centre, health visitors etc.

Dietary requirements
- How do you meet different dietary requirements?
- We provide snack for the children at 10am and 2pm. This snack consists of fruit, vegetable sticks and milk/water. If your child has any allergies or intolerances we ask that you inform us before they start so we can ensure all staff are able to make sure your childs needs are catered for. Children bring their own packed lunch to our setting for lunch at 12pm. We ask that parents follow our healthy eating policy and also avoid sending their child with food such as nuts, to help us keep all children safe. Again if your child has an intolerance or allergy we will ensure your child is sat away from children whose lunchbox contains items of those groups of food.
