Childcare Information and Additional Needs
Settling In
- How will you help children to settle into your setting?
- If you are interested in your child attending my setting, please do get in touch via email or phone. I can send further information and arrange a time for you to visit with your child. Should you decide to take up the place, we can agree a plan for settling in your child. Since children, like us adults, are unique, settling in can be tailored to the individual needs of each child and family. It’s hugely important that your child feels safe and secure here with me and forms warm and positive attachments. As it can take time to build this trust, I can offer as many settling in sessions as necessary. These can take many forms, including a home visit, visiting here with you, visiting alone. We can discuss what feels right for your child and adjust the plan as we go along.
Progress
- How will you communicate with parents/carers about their child's progress?
- At my setting we learn through play. The resources I set out each day are very much informed by each child’s interest and curiosity; they are ‘invitations’ to play and opportunities to explore further those things that so sparked their interest. I use a learning journey to capture your child’s interests and development, adding photographs and observations to form a scrapbook. Sometimes I may add notes under the flaps to give myself ideas of ways to extend their learning the next day. These will be sent home at the end of each term so you can see what your child has been choosing to engage in and read about their achievements. I also send an electronic 'daily diary' at the end of each day your child is with me, sharing and photographs and information about your child's day; and offer the opportunity to meet twice yearly for a longer 'parent consultation' type meeting, which is a chance to talk in more detail, share developmental information and discuss your child's next steps.
