APTCOO

A Place to Call Our Own (APTCOO) is a registered Charity and Independent School based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. We have created unique spaces in the local community for over 30 years, more recently branching out with properties in Retford, Budby and Thoresby set within the beautiful Sherwood Forest. We are motivated by the social, economic, health, environmental and community benefits, we are committed to bringing those benefits to as many people as possible, including marginalised and vulnerable groups.

We provide a wide range of information, advice and access to a flexible and tailored range of specialist services for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their whole family unit.

We operate through a single point of contact, 7 days per week; families feel safe, improve their education, health and well-being, develop new skills and have fun within all-inclusive community settings. We specialise in early intervention and preventative practise with an ultimate aim to keep children and young people safe, healthy and happy.

Our spaces and places are designed to encourage engagement and participation at the right time, in the right place, by the right people, bringing families together to support one another, make friends and socialise, reducing isolation and loneliness. We embrace the importance and power of learning, enabling children, young people and adults to try things out without the fear of failure, changing the emphasis from surviving into thriving. Our services include:

  • Crisis support - nurture unit acting as safety net between agencies

APTCOO is recognised and highly valued for our ability to address the social, emotional learning needs of young people at a greater risk of being left behind socially and educationally. We look at the whole picture, early intervention, identifying and addressing the underlying issues in children and young people and their family lives which prevent them from achieving their full potential. We deliver holistic support with long term impact.

APTCOO - A Place to Call Our Own is a registered charity based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, working to improve the life chances of children, young people and their families who experience a wide range of barriers created by having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). These barriers include conditions affecting social, educational, development and behaviour. Young people may experience neurological conditions and physical disabilities too. At the earliest opportunity we provide a wide range of information, advice and access to a personalised range of specialist health, care and education support services for children and young people with SEND and their whole family unit. We work as equals with young people and their families to help create better opportunities to succeed in life.

APTCOO is a specialist Alternative Education provider using highly innovative and creative practical strategies that turn opportunities into real and successful change. We work in partnership with Nottinghamshire County and City Council and local schools to deliver flexible alternative provision that will ultimately improve young people's well-being, attendance and achievement together with confidence to re-engage back into mainstream. We are able to offer unique, safe and accessible spaces catering for small numbers of children with complex needs, including physical and behavioural.

Our services are delivered across various sites, each having its own unique specialism and based within the local communities, we work closely together with the school and the family providing parent/carer and sibling support, this can help when problems include getting from home into school.

We are a one-stop resource centre, open 7 days a week where families feel safe and improve their health, education and wellbeing within an all-inclusive community hub setting. Parent carers also undertake training and development to learn new skills, build greater resilience and feel more empowered to make informed choices about their family. 

We provide information, advice, support and guidance from pre-birth through childhood and adolescence to adulthood, with the aim of ensuring the young person has the most independent and fulfilling life possible. We support families to make informed choices and works together with a wide range of complementary partners in order to provide - access to the right services, at the right time, with the right people.
