Balderton Village Day Nursery
Our Discovery Room is for children aged 6 weeks up to 2 years, The Explorer Room, is for aged 2 to 3 and our Creative Room is our Pre-School room catering for children aged 3 plus. The children do blend amongst the rooms to act as role models for the other children.
We strive to create a warm and nurturing environment in which children feel physically and emotionally safe. We create a homely atmosphere in which all staff know the children and every child's individual needs are accepted, valued and met in order to support each child reaching their full potential. We also aid in developing their practical skills that they will need as they grow up.
We have a structured routine which flows amongst all of the rooms, with set times for snack, lunch and tea, with activities planned in between including outdoor play and walks in the local area. The children have access to free flow areas to build on their independence and have the responsibilty, along with staff to care for our nursery rabbit.
If a child appears to be unsettled we will work with the parent to ensure that their child is happy. We offer two free settling in sessions for your child in which they will be allocated a key practitioner depending on who they bond with in that time. The key practitioner will be available to the parent to speak with if needed over any concerns and wishes of the parent. We provide regular updates on our online child development journal.
All children are assessed each half-term, where we can recognise if a child needs any extra help with their developmental needs. With these we will be able to intervene early and make referrals for the child if needed.

Childcare Information and Additional Needs
Settling In
- How will you help children to settle into your setting?
- Parents are invited to come for a showaround with their child. Appointments are normally at 4pm or another time of day if easier for them. Before a child starts with us we offer two free taster sessions in the morning.
Progress
- How will you communicate with parents/carers about their child's progress?
- In Discovery Room each child has a daily report, including what they have eaten, how much they have slept and the nappies that they have had changed. Each child also has a handover at the start and end of each day where any relevant information can be passed on between the parent/carer and the practitioners. Each child has their own online learning journey where we regularly update the parents with photographs and observations. The parents are also encouraged to post onto the journal. Regular meetings with parents are organised to discuss their development and how they can be moved on. The child's key practitioner will encourage home packs to go with the child to carry out a supporting activity at home.
