The Adventure Service operates two Day Services in Nottinghamshire. Our base in Mansfield Woodhouse has been open since August 2011 and more recently our Top Valley Day Service has been open since April 2015.
Our Day Service is a targeted personal development service for teenagers and adults with learning disabilities and additional support needs. We provide specialist outdoor adventures for groups of Adventurers to take part in. These activities include mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling, weaselling, bushcraft, canoeing, hill walking, archery and much more.
Our Adventurers all work towards individual skills targets and through our expert instruction and support, the skills that individuals develop during our sessions are transferable into other areas of their lives. For example preparing and cooking a meal on a fire will help to develop relevant skills for independent living. Group volunteering will help to develop an understanding of working with others and communication skills. We used Person Centred Planning to determine personalised learning plans and set these achievable goals.
Adventurers provide their own transport to and from both of ours centres. Specialist equipment is provided. Adventurers will need to provide sturdy boots, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers and a day rucksack.
