Brierley Forest Country Park

Brierley Forest Park was officially opened in May 1994.

Originally a former colliery site, Brierley Forest Park has been transformed into a wildlife haven with nature walks covering over two miles. The Park also provides recreation facilities including a football pitch and wonderful children’s play area, a sculpture trail, areas of local historical interest, as well as a visitor centre.

The Visitor Centre cafe has its own Facebook page, the Brierley cafe. The cafe is no longer run by Brierley Forest Park Trust.  Contact the cafe on 07984 158882

Wildflower meadows have been sown with native species such as yarrow and ox-eye daisy, and wetland areas created.

A wide variety of wildlife flourishes in the park, for example a large population of skylarks nest on the former spoil tip. Other residents include deer, foxes, owls, meadow pipits and lapwings.
