Schools Extended Local Offer Response

1. What kinds of special educational needs does the school/setting make provision for?

We have an Impact Centre which supports all pupils with SEND. One to one reading sessions, group literacy support, exam dispensation, numeracy support, coursework support and SEMH support are all held in the centre.

2. (For mainstream schools & maintained nurseries only) How does the school/setting know if pupils need extra help and what should I do if I think that my child may have special educational needs?

Our links with the primary schools are excellent and are supported by the Springboard sessions that are held at the school 3 times a year.

3.a) How does the school/setting evaluate the effectiveness of its provision for pupils with special educational needs?

Data is kept for all intervention opportunties and is reguarly viewed as to it's effectiveness.

3.b) How will both the school/setting and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will the school/setting help me to support their learning?

Pupils are supported in class and in the tutor settings. The school has a strong pastoral system. Parents are kept fully informed if there are concerns over their child's progress.

3.c) What is the school's approach to teaching pupils with special educational needs?

We promote Quality First Teaching in the classroom and this is supported by Teaching Assistants for those with funding or needs that we feel would benefit from being supported in the classroom. We also provide small group and 1-1 interventions to support all pupils with various SEND needs

3.d) How will the curriculum and learning be matched to my child/young person's needs?

Differentiation in the classroom is key in this regard. Quality First teaching in the classroom and regular progress checks are important in getting the curriculum and level of work matched to individual need. Curriculums are mapped in a way suitable for all students.

3.e) How are decisions made about the type and amount of support my child/young person will receive?

Each child is dealt with on a individual basis. Their support package is discussed both in school and within the main family of schools SENDCO meetings. Child and parent voice is also used and regular review meetings to discuss type and amount of support offered

3.f) How will my child/young person be included in activities outside the classroom, including school trips?

Teaching Assistants accompany young people on trips when required. No one is excluded from joining in extra curricular activities.

3.g) What support will there be for my child/young person's overall well-being?

A pastoral system with Heads of Year groups is in place. We also offer SEMH support.

4. (For mainstream schools and maintained nurseries) Who is the school/setting's special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) and what are their contact details.

5.a) What training have staff supporting special educational needs had and what is planned?

All staff undertake regular CPD training. There are several programmes in place. We undertake training in each department and meet together as a whole staff each half term. SEND training is part of this and can be requested by the SENCO at any time so that staff are up to date on all SEND aspects.

5.b) What specialist services and expertise are available or accessed by the setting/school?
  • SFFS, CAMHs

6. How will equipment and facilities to support pupils with special educational needs secured? How accessible is the school/setting?

We have some classrooms that are upstairs however, these are serviced by lifts. There is only one part of the building that is not wheelchair friendly. In this scenario the Impact Centre could be used to support learning.

7. What are the arrangements for consulting parents of pupils with special educational needs? How will be I involved in the education of my child/young person?

Review meetings are held 3 times a year and open lines of communication are an important factor.

We offer regular phone contact, email and face to face contact.
