Specialist Support Team

Coronavirus Service Information: The ICDS Early Support Service is in regular contact with the children, young people and families it works with and continues to offer essential front-line support, including personal care, when this is essential to meet the on-going needs of service users.

All non-essential direct contact has been ceased and group provision, including Saturday Clubs and Easter Holiday Clubs, has been cancelled as such gatherings are not currently permitted and allow resources to be targeted at the most vulnerable.

During the current period, only essential new referrals from the Children’s Disability Service will be considered.

The Specialist Support Team offers bespoke, individualised packages of support for children and young people aged 0-18years, either within their own homes or local communities, delivered by trained / experienced support workers. The team is registered and inspected by Care Quality Commission (CQC)

Description

The Early Support Team offers:

  • Personal Care needs Assessment:

    • We provide an assessment of the personal care needs of children / young people, where they have personal care tasks which require support from 2 or more adults and there is insufficient adult capacity within the family to undertake these tasks. There tasks are usually moving and handling related
  • Establishing Positive Routines:
    • We offer children / young people and their families, practical and emotional support with establishing routines and practical ways to manage behaviour that may be related to these routines, such as morning or evening routines.
  • Sleep support and advice

    • We provide accredited Sleep Practitioners who support children / young people and their families to establish a healthy sleep routine. This could be alongside overnight support in the home if required to improve the outcomes of the support.
  • Overnight short breaks in the home / community

    • These are a break for the parent from their caring role and the opportunity for the child/young person to experience / expand their independence in a supported way either staying in their own home while the parents are away or in the community accessing hotels etc. These require an assessment by the Childrens Disability service.
  • Specialist sitting;

    • This is sitting for the child/young person in their own home due to specific circumstances, such as health needs / equipment or the young person being unable to access the community, which may be due to anxiety etc. this requires an assessment of need.
  • Community Engagement

    • This is support for the young person to access the community as part of a short break / or a short term intervention, to increase their independence, to make choices and to establish support networks, which may enable them in the long term to access provision independently
  • Group Provision

    • We provide specialist sessions for young people with complex needs, who are unable to access other universal provision. These run in an appropriate environment which enables the young people to have fun, have social interactions and engage with new group experiences. These sessions are supported by staff with specific knowledge, experience and training, matched to the needs of the group.
  • Preparing for adulthood / independence packagesSupporting with : Independent access                            Life Skills

Early Support may signpost families requiring support for younger children to more age appropriate services such as Childrens Centres
