Adult Deaf and Visual Impairment Service (ADVIS)

The Adult Deaf and Visual Impairment Service (ADVIS) provides specialist support to people aged 18 or over who are:

  •  Deaf/deafened/hearing impaired
  •  Blind/visually impaired
  •  Dual sensory impaired

ADVIS has specialist workers who understand the difficulties caused by a sensory impairment and can use sign language.

Nottinghamshire County Council have a service level agreement with Notts Deaf Society to provide a Sign Language interpreter as required.

You do not have to be registered blind / visually impaired to access our Rehabilitation services which support people to maintain independence.

ADVIS support adults who live in Nottinghamshire. If you live in Nottingham City please contact Nottingham City Council to find out about the services available from them.

Description

The specialist rehabilitation officers can support with:

  • Information and advice about your situation and support in the community
  • Help with everyday living skills
  • Specialist equipment to make everyday living easier
  • Developing mobility skills e.g. travelling independently
  • Access to other services e.g. guide dogs, talking books, Notts Fire and Rescue Service
  • Advice and support to access environmental equipment to enable people who are Deaf or hard of hearing to live safely and independently at home.
