Children's Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Service (NHS) - Community Children & Young People's Service
Our services provide treatment and assessment for children and young people with disabilities or long-term health conditions affecting their movement, coordination, or ability to engage in activities of daily living.
We provide advice, assessment and intervention including therapy programmes and equipment to help meet the young person’s needs and work closely with parents, carers and other services involved with the child to provide effective care in a range of settings including home, school/nursery and at our clinics.
A referral to either service must come through a paediatrician or consultant. For help with this please speak to your GP or health visitor.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Physiotherapy focuses on mobility, movement, positioning, and the gross motor functions involved in a child’s development.
Occupational Therapy focuses on fine motor functions as well as functional activities/tasks of daily living and issues with coordination.
There can be some overlap and we often work together to achieve the best results for our young people and families.
