Call In Time from Age UK (friendship call)
Call in Time is a free telephone national telephone friendship service run by Age UK for people age 60 and over.
The service has been in operation since 2005 and has established itself as a provider of quality telephone friendship contact and support.
We match our older members with a trained and supported volunteer who shares their interests and calls once a week for a friendly chat lasting 20 – 30 minutes as part of a mutual on going friendship.
We work with a number of significant corporate organisations who provide our volunteers, such as Zurich, Prudential and Bloomberg and others of similar standing. All corporate volunteers are reference checked, trained and continually supported by Age UK. Many of our volunteers have been calling their telephone friend for several years.
While we match our older members with a volunteer, we make an assessment by providing up to 6 weeks of shorter calls. Some may receive more than 6 weeks if this appropriate for their needs.
Feedback from the calls we make to older people:
“I really appreciate people calling. It makes such a difference.”
“You have been the lifeline for my mother and we really appreciate your support.”
I look forward to Tuesday just to hear Alexandra’s voice. I enjoy every minute of her call. [I am] more than happy she is a marvellous friend, I could not ask for more.”
“It does warm your heart to know that someone cares about me, and is ready to offer advice and help.”
