aebal Leisure is a progressive social support service covering the whole of Nottinghamshire.
We offer outreach support for adults with autism, learning disabilities and mental health problems. We specialise in short, person-focused sessions which include a wide range of leisure, sports, social and volunteer opportunities.
Aebal Leisure ‘Connect’ places the emphasis on social outcomes and friendship. As with Aebal Leisure ‘Support’, the sessions are structured to work alongside the outcomes identified by social workers and families. ‘Connect’ sessions are delivered in small groups of two’s and three’s with the aim of bringing like-minded people together through choice leisure activities. This service option often works as an extension from the ‘Support’ sessions where people can meet through shared interests and form new friendships. We spend time getting to know all of the people who access our service and will always introduce individuals of similar interests and abilities to create new ‘Connect’ sessions. Aebal Leisure are also able to help support existing friendships out in the community by providing the flexibility of evening and weekend sessions. Often friendships cannot exist outside the large mixed group activities typical of day centre/college environments. ‘Connect’ sessions enable people to spend time with their favourite people, doing the activities that they like to do and they are able to choose when they would like to do them: Simple. We encourage self-directed activities and promote independence whenever possible. The support we provide helps people to organise activities, become more active and spend time with their friends out in the community.
