The Review of Short Breaks in Nottinghamshire
Nottinghamshire County Council has undertaken a review of its short breaks offer for children and young people with disabilities, and their parents and carers. To ensure that the revised short breaks offer best meets the needs of families, we will be co-producing with children and young people with disabilities, their parents and carers.
Working with the Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum, the review will consider a range of options to ensure the revised short breaks offer meets the needs of the most vulnerable children and young people, and is sustainable going forward.
The County Council and its partner, Nottinghamshire’s Parent Carer Forum have completed the initial stage of the co-produced review of short breaks. This initial stage has involved talking to hundreds of parents and carers together with children and young people with disabilities about their experiences of short breaks. This has been achieved through an online survey, family events held throughout the summer and meetings with various local parent/carer groups.
The next phase of the co-produced review began at the end of September. A series of meetings with a working group of parents/carers are being held in order to develop a sustainable model, which will take into account the views of children and young people with disabilities and their parents and carers.
